No Volverán! by Melanie MacDonald and Will Roche
original English and Spanish soundtrack with English subtitles
From film makers Melanie MacDonald and Will Roach comes ‘No Volverán - The Venezuelan Revolution Now’, a timely and exciting feature length documentary about the Venezuelan Revolution. This in-depth investigation takes us on a journey through the fervor of the Presidential Elections in December 2006, traveling deep into the shanty towns (barrios), and to several factories under workers’ control, to find out what this “Socialism of the 21st Century” is all a about, and how it is changing people’s lives. Community activists show us around their barrios to see firsthand how difficult life is for the urban poor. The film makers also travel to Sanitarios Maracay, a ceramics factory under workers’ control. Their campaign for full nationalization is the first of its kind in Venezuela, and we follow these workers to Caracas for a dramatic demonstration that marches to parliament and the presidential palace.
With fantastic footage of the elections, demonstrations and the people and streets of Caracas, the «Bolivarian Revolution” of the ever popular President Hugo Chavez is brought to our screens in a rich tapestry of action and interviews that gives us real insight into the process taking place as well as the challenges that lie ahead. A must see!
An introduction by The Bolivarian Society of Quebec and by representatives of the Consulate General of Venezuela in Montreal will precede the screening of the film at 8:45pm.
